Fun at Fort Toulouse
The kids loved exploring Fort Toulouse! We all had a great time hiking the trails, visiting the forts and identifying trees on our arboretum walk. After venturing out to see the river, we enjoyed a picnic under the trees in the perfect spring weather. Fun day!
Spring Break at the Zoo
Perfect spring day to visit the zoo…along with half the population of Montgomery and busloads of people from miles around! The kids were more interested in the playground than the animals at first, but enjoyed the intense activity at the chimp exhibit when we finally made it around that way.
Poetry reading in the park
March’s book club meeting was met with gorgeous weather so we decided to hit the fresh air and take the kids to the park for it. We heard poetry from William Blake, Shel Silverstein, and more. We even heard original works from a couple of the kids. For April we are discussing whatever the kids wish to read.
Very Hungry Caterpillars
This month, we used Eric Carle’s classic book as a starting point for our discussion of caterpillars and butterflies. By comparing the story with the real butterfly life cycle, we all learned a few things. We also talked about the differences between butterflies and moths, then examined some real moth cocoons and made colorful butterfly models.
