New Playground!

zoo playground
The kids had a blast playing on the new zoo playground. We had to beg and cajole them to take a glimpse at the animals. But, they did enjoy the baby elephant and the baby siamang ape once we finally convinced them. Looking forward to another zoo trip soon!

Fun new exhibit at MMFA

MMFA exhibitParents and kids all enjoyed exploring the new outdoor exhibit at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Five little huts made of entwined branches–very cool! We spent more time outside the entrance than we did inside the museum. The poor birds didn’t get fed as much as usual, either. :-D

Snakes at ANC

SnakesThe kids loved “Snake Day” at the Alabama Nature Center. They learned about lots of snakes that live in our region, and even got a chance to hold some of the non-poisonous varieties. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a hike on the new Treetop Pass trail. Can’t wait for our next visit to the Nature Center!

Fun with the otters!

ottersIt was a damp, chilly day at the zoo, but the kids still had a great time. We had a close encounter with a peacock, went nose-to-nose with the dik dik and had a breezy train ride. But, the big hit of the day was the new otter exhibit. Everyone enjoyed Oscar and Opal’s antics, and seeing them cuddle up for a nap afterwards.

The Mooseum

Mooseum TourOur trip to the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association’s Mooseum downtown was a huge hit with the kids. They learned about all the different products we get from cattle, some history of the industry, and got to climb on a scale to see how many kids it takes to equal the weight of a cow. The rodeo dress-up room and play kitchen were the favorite spots of the day.

Creek Walk at ANC

Creek WalkOur creek walk at the Alabama Nature Center was a wonderfully exciting and entertaining day for both the kids and the parents…although some of the moms hadn’t realized it would actually involve walking in a real creek.  But , everyone was a good sport about it and  just rolled up their pants and headed in. Our guide did a wonderful job talking to all the kids regardless of their age.  We hope to get back to the Alabama Nature Center soon for another fun filled adventure.
